Shana's Explication
This poem tells the story of what Kelly Cherry's father could remember while facing the challenges of his disease. This poem sets off a sad and emotional tone. I believe that Kelly Cherry began to become frustrated with her father at times because of his forgetfulness. A quote that really stood out to me was "other matters are now of greater import, having more consequence must be attended to" (Cherry 856). This stood out to me because this is where I read and felt her frustration she was upset that her father was remembering things from the past but could not recognize his own wife. Kelly Cherry wrote this poem freely I did not really see any structure to her poem; it does not have any complete sentences. I can personally relate to this poem because I have been working with Alzheimer’s patients for eight years and I must say everyday is a challenge.
